DC machines are known as commutating machines that are derived from the name of the mechanism commutator.

In a PMDC motor(For example Toy motor) , permanent magnets which are located in stator provide magnetic field, widely used in toys instead of stator winding of some universal motor such as mixer,power tools.
The stator is usually made from steel in cylindrical form. Permanent magnets are usually made from rare earth materials or neodymium.
